The Day Jobbers Essential Poetry Prompt ~ Bathroom Doors

August 2020

Feel free to still use these poetry prompts. I think they are great fun. But I would. They are mine …. 😉

June 2015

A great start to “The Day Jobbers Essential Poetry Prompt” last week and the “socky” poems were brilliant.

This week’s prompt

So what will this week’s prompt lead us to? Again an everyday object has captured my imagination:
I stood in our shower which has glass all around it so that I can see the whole bathroom. My eyes fell on the frame of our bathroom door, and I realised how wonky it was.
Now I have to explain that we rent a charming but old cottage and like all old houses walls, doors and floorboards are creaky, wonky and just that little bit out of shape. However, that’s what makes the charm of an old cottage in my eyes. I would always rather live in an old lived-in house than in one of those new-fangled villas. Still, it surprised me a lot to see how wonky that bathroom door is.
That made me wonder how much this door might have seen in its long life and how much it might have heard. What would it tell us if it could speak?

Use “Language is a Virus.”

And as I have not done anything with “Language is a Virus’s” gadgets I decided to bring the bathroom door together with the “Visual Poetry” gadget. If you click on the link, you find a button on the page (launch visual poetry) that starts the gadget. There is a black box appearing on the top right side where you can enter your text and change the colour, font and size of the font. When you have entered all the parameters, just move the cross in the middle of the screen and “paint” your poem. Believe me, it’s great fun!

Bathroom Doors combined with “Visual Poetry.”

So this week’s “The Day Jobbers Essential Poetry Prompt” lets you discover what your bathroom door might tell you combined with form:

“ Draw your bathroom door poem with the “Visual Poetry gadget” on “Language is a Virus.”

    1. Thanks, Robbie, it was a series I did in 2015. Unfortunately, I changed my blog several times and the links didn’t move. So, I put all old posts as drafts and am working though them now. The prompt was great fun and I publish my poem for it on Friday :-). Thanks for stopping by 🙂
