I have a writing break from NaNoWriMo so I share some of my work in progress with you.

Today I share a little bit from my fifth day of NaNoWriMo. I have to explain, that the story starts right in the middle. I am working on a fantasy/sci-fi series I have started in 2014 on an old blog but got to halt halfway through.

The main character is Rowan a young man who starts working on a supermarket planet. Aliens have taken over humanity and made them work for the aliens in supermarkets that occupy whole planets to sell to the universe. Rowan is the son of Ron who is a rebel leader who wants to stay out of any contact with aliens or technology and is still living on earth and brother of Negrescu, who has his own agenda.

However, Rowan does not remember this. His memory was changed to become a spy for the rebels and cause harm to the aliens shopping empires. I still have to work the basics and specifics out but this is just a first draft so please bear with me.

Sadit and Chan are his friends who work with him as cleaners. Gale is a girl who works for the rebels too and is supposed to help Rowan in his “cause”. She works at the customer services. She already had a couple of strange meetings with Rowan, that make no sense to him.

Ron is on earth and Negrescu has tried to kill his father who left his home, to meet an old friend called Single Feather to figure out how to get on. A clone stays in Ron’s place to not cause suspicion. There is also a “colony” of clones who work against Negrescu. Ron with Single Feather and Single Feather’s people go to them because Negrescu’s men have started to kill them.

And here is my WIP:

Rowan had nearly reached A1 when he suddenly fell. Out of nowhere the manhole he had investigated earlier in the week had opened up and he did not see it. He landed on the floor with a clunk to find himself in front of the dark-skinned man who could not help but laugh. “You again!” Gale came running from the hole and asked: “What’s the matter?” When she saw Rowan getting up and patting the bruised parts of his body she said nothing but rolled her eyes.

“Hi Rowan,” she said eventually. “Hi. Do you always catch newbies like this?!” Josh laughed again. “He has some humour!” Josh said to Gale who again rolled her eyes. “No not usually only when my second in command can’t follow procedures and check when opening the door!” she gave Josh a stare. Josh stopped laughing. “What do we do now?” he asked instead. “We have to kill him” Gale wanted to say but didn’t.

“Well close the door for one!” she said. “Did it automatically!” Josh said. “At least something!” Rowan looked around. He had landed in a tunnel roughly hewn out of the soil of the Morsmart planet. At the end, he saw a light though a simple wooden door and he could smell sheep. “Ok, what is going on?” he asked. “First come with me and let me check if all is ok with you!” Gale said and took him by the arm. She jerked him towards the door. Josh followed them. “Hey, don’t drag me like this!” Gale let go only a little until she was through the door. She pointed towards the table and nodded towards Josh who went to the bed and then behind it to the wardrobe. He opened it and got a first aid kit out which he brought back to Gale. “Sit down!” Rowan just sat down and looked around and wrinkled his nose. “You’ll get used to it!” Josh said standing behind him. Gale had a look at Rowan’s hands which had some scratches. Then she asked,” Does anything hurt particularly?” “No” was all Rowan bothered to say. “He seems alright!” she concluded then asked: “Coffee?” Rowan nodded and took the wooden doors, the bed and the kitchenette in. “Cozy!” he said while Gale was getting him a mug and coffee. “Not really!” she answered when she sat down in front of him with her own mug in hands.

“So what are you up to guys!” Rowan asked eventually. “Before we answer that we want to know what you are up to!” Gale answered and stared over his head. “Me?” Rowan asked. “I…..” “What am I really up to” he wondered at the same moment. “…. am not sure. I was headhunted to work as an engineer but they put me to cleaning. I see you and Mr dark-skinned walking around A1 and suddenly vanish and aisles explode in the shop….. Let’s say I wonder a little what is going on here!”

“Well, you know now how we “vanish”” Josh said instead of Gale. “You haven’t heard from earth then?” asked Gale. “Me?! From Earth?! Why should I hear from earth?!” Rowan asked stunned. “I have no one to hear from anyway!”
Gale gave Josh a look and then stood up and chucked her coffee into the sink and got herself a glass of water.

“He certainly is the one.We have the pictures” Josh said, “but why doesn’t he remember by now?”
“Who am I supposedly?” Rowan asked. “You are Ron’s younger son. One of the specially trained operators to bring down the supermarket imperiums” Gale stated like it was nothing special.

“My father’s name is not Ron and he is dead!” Again Gale looked at Josh who just shook his head. “Something is gone terribly wrong here!” she stated the obvious.

“What are you talking about?”
