Welcome back ladies and gentlemen, have you enjoyed your break week? Could you read something nice or just relax? I very much hope so.
This week as promised “just” a self-care challenge for you and no shout outs. Those will resume next week. If you took part last week or this week your shouts outs will be done in next week’s post together to be exact.
Well, what do I have in store for you this week’s self-care challenge?
A challenge it is for many I assume because I want to talk a little about spiritual card readings.
But Bee, you might say, what does that have to do with self-care? And I answer: If you have a question about your life and you need an answer it is self-care too to find one. Sounds rather stupid, doesn’t it. But we are often not aware of how important it is to feel guided or to have at least a little idea of where we need to go with our lives. Not knowing can be a way of experiencing life to the fullest but mostly it just creates chaos and unnecessary stress. So finding some guidance one way or the other is an important part of keeping your life in balance. And that’s what self-care is all about when it comes down to it, don’t you think?
Not everybody is a spiritual person and card readings just do not work for everybody. That is the simple truth. People find guidance in different ways. Some ask their family. Others their friends. Some go for counselling or find a life coach and others go for advice to their spiritual leader or simply read a book about the topic they are enquiring about. And some choose Tarot-, Angel- or Animal Spirit cards to find their way around life’s challenges.
Now I am not here to convince you that readings work. If that is not your thing I suggest you come back next week or read one of Music Monday Care & Love’s older post to get a suggestion on what to do for your self-care. But if you are curious to find out another way then feel free to stay and broaden your horizon.
So what are spiritual cards?
Most of us have probably heard of the infamous Tarot Cards which in Films usually let you know that you either about to die or win the lottery. But nowadays there are many more forms of cards for spiritual readings. There are Angel cards which convey angelic wisdom. There are also animal spirit or shamanic cards which give you guidance through the ancient art of Shamanism. And there are oracle cards in different forms and sizes that use all sorts of spiritual wisdom to guide you along.
What’s the “science” behind Tarot- and other cards?
There are many theories why card readings work which are well explained in “Weird Shit not Bullshit’s” post “How does Tarot Work”. The reason why I believe it works is that all these cards work with imagery that is deeply ingrained in our psyches and let us connect to a deeper level of ourselves that often knows more of what is good for us than we are aware of. That deeper level is often called our intuition and most people accept today that this level is an important one in making decisions.
When we receive an image via a reading we want to make sense of its message in connection with our enquiry. We think outside our usual ways of thinking, so to speak outside the box, and it gives us ideas of what might be the right solution for our problem.
I am working with different cards for many years and the more I work with them the more I am surprised how accurate their “view” on my issues are. No matter if synchronicity, pure chance or a higher power guides the cards they are often giving me the exact reason for a problem of mine which I am as often not willing to see. But there doesn’t seem to be a chance to “fool” the cards. They just give you the same message until you get it and move on. I find the more you work with them the easier you understand their message and can change what needs changing.
There are usually good explanations what a card might mean with each card. You could see them as guidelines of what might cause your enquiry but your gut will lead you in the right direction no matter what the cards say. That is another thing I have learned. Don’t ‘give the cards too much power. In the end, it is you who takes the decisions in your life and it is you who interprets the message. I also think there is no right or wrong way: However, you decide just gives you a different experience. If you can accept that life’s challenges become much more manageable.
Well, you probably guessed it already what this week’s challenge is:
I challenge you to try out a spiritual reading to find a solution for a question you have. But if you feel that is too far out for your liking just research Tarot and other spiritual card readings to broaden your horizon. This is a list of links to free online readings that you can try out if you feel like it. And you find a list of posts and articles to research tarot readings at the end of this post under resources.

I am not a health professional. My posts describe my thoughts, my experiences and my conclusions about life, mental health and self-improvement. My described actions always go alongside therapy and do not substitute professional advice by a health professional be it a doctor, therapist or counsellor.
I invite you to try out self-care tools, however, if any of these make you feel uncomfortable please stop and do not go further ahead. Also, if any of the tools suggested bring up issues that need dealing with do not hesitate to reach out for professional help.
To recognise when you need to stop and when to reach out for professional or any other help is one important part to learn when it comes to self-care.
