Women Who Run with the WolvesWomen Who Run with the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estés
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“Women who run with the wolves” is a book about stories and how stories change your life. I think it is mainly written with women in their mind but I think it is good for men to have a look in it as well.

Clarissa Pinkola Estes is a post-trauma-specialist and poet who uses her Hungarian and South-American heritage of stories to show valuable life-lessons. Some might think: “Oh it is only fairy-stories! They are for children!”. But actually, fairy-stories used to be told by older people to younger ones to teach them about life. To teach young women about falling in love or getting married and what these changes mean but also to teach young men how to deal with challenges and many other life-changing events. Unfortunately, fairy-stories have become “just” something to tell your children but Clarissa Pinkola Estes brings it back in a modern way.
It has taught me a lot!

I put this one on Smiley Sociology Study 9 about Book reviews

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Die Wolfsfrau ist ein Buch ueber Geschichten und wie Geschichten unser Leben veraendern. Ich denke es ist zumeist fuer Frauen geschrieben worden aber ich denke Maenner koennen hier auch vieles lernen.
Clarissa Pinkola-Estes ist eine Spezialistin fuer post-traumatische Stoerungen und Lyrikerin, die ihr ungarisches und suedamerikanisches Erbe an Geschichten nutzt, um wichtige Lebenslektionen aufzuzeigen. Einige moegen denken: “Das sind ja nur Maerchen! Die sind fuer Kinder!”
Aber Maerchen wurden frueher von aelteren Menschen erzaehlt, um den juengeren etwas uebers Leben allgemein zu erzaehlen. Zum Beispiel enthielten sie Lektionen fuer junge Frauen, was passiert, wenn frau sich verliebt und wenn frau heiratet und was die Veraenderungen fuer sie bedeuten aber auch jungen Maennern, wie sie mit Herausforderungen umgehen koennen und anderen lebensveraendernden Ereignisse. Ungluecklicherweise haben sich Maerchen in etwas verwandelt, das man nur seinen Kindern erzaehlt. Aber Clarissa Pinkola-Estes bringt die alte Bedeutung in einer modernen Form wieder.
Das Buch hat mich eine Menge gelehrt!
  1. Hi Rachel you should definitely read it. It helped so much to understand a lot about my life and sort things out. And I just love fairy tales :-). Shame though that hardly anyone likes to do the book reviews. I was so looking forward to get some ideas…..
  2. I'm still hoping to get more people to do some book reviews. We shall see. I'll try to pick up a copy of Women Who Run With Wolves. I mostly borrow from the library these days. I don't have the room to keep the books even if I wanted to. 🙂
  3. I think that is a great thing we have to support our libraries. I do not know if it is the same in the US that councils try to close down library’s like they do here but they did not realise how much people love them. Councils have a hard time to get that one through….
