Hello out there. Are you chilling? I very much hope so. Here is a mug of your favourite hot beverage and a sweet temptation to cheer you up ;-).
Today’s prompt is by me and we go down memory lane again (I admit I might be a bit boring at times đ ): We choose a song from the year we left school. I left school two years after the wall came down and the year both German states officially joined again. It was such an exciting time but at first I could not remember any music I was listening to.
Then I checked out the German Top Ten in 1991 and stumbled over an artist I had utterly forgotten. Her name is Pe Werner who was born in Heidelberg to parents who until 1957 lived in the East of Germany. She had made an album before but “Dieses Kribbeln im Bauch/Those butterflies in the stomach” was her breakthrough. I bought the CD and listened to it continuously. She is a redhead so I had an affinity towards her anyway đ but I also just loved her music.
A little jazzy, a little pop and lyrics that played so well with the German language that got me really excited. Today she is more a jazz singer who often works with big bands like the one in the video I chose for today. I can’t believe I forgot about her…
As always: if you can’t play the video here on the blog follow the link underneath to it’s YouTube location.
Pe Werner “Dieses Kribbeln im Bauch” (Those butterflies in the stomach) (Unofficial translation by me)
Dieses Kribbeln im Bauch, (Those butterflies in the stomach)
das man nie mehr vergisst, (that you’ll never forget)
(as if all hell let loose in your stomach)
Dieses Kribbeln im Bauch (Those butterflies in the stomach)
kennst du doch auch, (you do know it, don’t you?)
(It’s like you foam over with happiness)
Dieses Kribbeln im Bauch, (Those butterflies in the stomach)
das man nie mehr vergisst, (That you’ll never forget)
wie wenn man zuviel BrausestĂ€bchen isst. (It’s as if you eat too many fizzy candy sticks)
Dieses Kribbeln im Bauch (Those butterflies in the stomach)
vermisst du doch auch (you miss them too, don’t you?)
– einfach ĂŒberzusprudeln vor GlĂŒck (When you simply bubble over with happiness)
Wir haben uns so aneinader gewöhnt, (we are so used to each other)
uns bringt nichts und niemand aus der Ruhe (Nothing and no one gets us ruffled)
Die Zeit hat uns die Leidenschaft abgewöhnt, (Time got us out of the habit of passion)
sie steht wie das schwarze paar Schuhe (It stands like the black pair of shoes)
irgendwo unten im Kellerregal (Somewhere downstairs on a cellar shelf)
wartend auf ein BegrÀbnis. (Waiting for a funeral)
We make out this is normal)
unsere Liebe steht ab und wird schal. (We let our love stand and it gets stale)
Dieses Kribbeln im Bauch, (Those butterflies in the stomach)
das man nie mehr vergisst, (that youâll never forget)
(as if all hell let loose in your stomach)
Dieses Kribbeln im Bauch (Those butterflies in the stomach)
kennst du doch auch, (you do know it, donât you?)
(Itâs like you foam over with happiness)
Dieses Kribbeln im Bauch, (Those butterflies in the stomach)
das man nie mehr vergisst, (That youâll never forget)
wie wenn man zuviel BrausestĂ€bchen isst. (Itâs as if you eat too many fizzy candy sticks)
Dieses Kribbeln im Bauch (Those butterflies in the stomach)
vermisst du doch auch (you miss them too, donât you?)
â einfach ĂŒberzusprudeln vor GlĂŒck (When you simply bubble over with happiness)
We got so used to each other and the fact)
uns kurz zu fassen. (That we are shorthanded)
Die Zeit hat uns die Leidenschaft abgewöhnt, (Time got us out of the habit of passion) wir haben es durchgehen lassen. (We let it happen)
The feelings for you didn’t just blow out)
aber unser Gefrierpunkt ist schon lÀnger in Sicht (but we can see the freezing point for a while)
bloĂ daran gewöhn ich mich nicht. (But I can’t get used to it)
Dieses Kribbeln im Bauch, (Those butterflies in the stomach)
das man nie mehr vergisst, (that youâll never forget)
Wir schleichen einander wie Katzen um die Beine (We crawl around each other like cats around legs)
und wollen doch beide nur das Eine… (and we only want the one thing)

There are things that don’t exactly make the same sense in English than in German. Just couldn’t find the right words even though the words are translated properly if that makes sense…đââïžđ
