Do You Remember Malala?

Hello out there, all you lovely people. Please come in, have a seat, a cup of your favourite beverage and put your feet up. I hope you can relax a little in this world full of stressful information.

Cancer gives me a lot of time to think

I have my feet up a lot lately. Going through chemotherapy means my body needs to fight an onslaught of chemicals that are supposed to kill any cancer cells that might have spread.

However, they also attack healthy cells so my body has to heal continuously. And healing needs energy. Lots of it. But when you use the energy, you need to recover it too. That means resting a lot.

Recently I have started to keep media off when I rest. I try to become more mindful, so I just concentrate on my breathing. However, my mind hasn’t got the memo yet 😉 . It keeps thinking. And it keeps remembering.

I have time to remember all sorts

So I remember all sorts of things. How that cockerel where I used to live crowed continuously every morning from quarter to seven to quarter to eight. Or my grandmother’s hands. Or how the best husband (Jeremy Clarkson voice) in the world and I met. And I remember people.

One of them was Malala Yousafzai. Remember her?

Do you remember Malala Yousafzai?

She is the Afghan schoolgirl who got shot by a Taliban assassin on her school bus. Her family was lucky to escape to the UK, where Malala got treated and relearned everything from speech to walking.

She also got the chance to finish her education something the Taliban denied her. But she didn’t stop there. She didn’t sit back and thought: “Oh, I went through enough, I want a “normal” life now.” Nope, she made it her life’s mission to get every girl a school education. For that, she received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014.

Have you ever listened to her Nobel Prize speech?

I guess we all know parts of that speech. Those that were chopped out for the news. I thought though it’s worth listening to the whole thing. Why? Because that young lady is amazing and her words need to be heard. And I also hink this is a very good news story.

  1. Continued prayers for you!! How nice to just sit quietly and remember things. 🙂 I think we all need a break from the media. I remember what it was like before phones and computers. 😁

  2. I remember Malala. I haven’t heard anything about her recently though. A very brave individual. I am glad you are able to rest. My mother used to rest a lot too. Some people have to work while they are having treatment and that must be awful.

    1. Hi Robbie, I hadn’t heard of her either but her foundation is busy helping girls all over the world which is so encouraging. Yes, I thought so often recently that I would have a much harder time if I’d had to work. A little silver lining of this virus 🤨🙋‍♀️🐝
