Elizabeth Bennett & Mr. Darcy ~ Find a love themed piece of music from the romantic era and/or write a romantic poem.

I grew up in Germany so I did not need to read Pride & Prejudice. Germans have to read Goethe’s “Die Leiden des jungen Werther“. Believe me, Jane Austen is better! But I was lucky. Our German teacher got us into Eastern German literature and a book called “Die Neuen Leiden des Jungen W” instead. It had a young man reading the Goethe book and finding similarities. Not that I remember any of it. But I digress. Let’s get back to Austen, Elisabeth and Darcy. Or more Schubert who, I hope I get that right, was a romantic composer and he used a Goethe poem. Oh dear, here we come around….

This piece of music and poem describes a lovers thoughts on what he could be to make his love happy but in the end he says:” Sorry, I am who I am”. You can find a translation of the lyrics here on Lieder.net. It is copyrighted so I could not use it here easily.

Now, I’m found out: While I have started to love romantic novels I am not one for romance in writing poems. So I had to cheat a little here 🙂
