A Love Song from February 13th, 1972 and new prompt: A Very Random Challenge ~ Love Is In Da Blog 2022

Ah, another challenge but not as bad as the one for 1922 ;-). Apparently, the film and soundtrack to the musical “Cabaret” came out in February 1972. At least the soundtrack was released on the 13th so for once I follow my own prompt LOL.

I chose “Maybe This Time” because it describes Sally Bowles hopes for love so touchingly. And I suspect all of us have felt like that at one point in our lives 🙂

Wikipedia writes about the Cabaret the film:

Cabaret is a 1972 American musical drama film directed by Bob Fosse, and starring Liza Minnelli, Michael York and Joel Grey.[7]

Set in Berlin during the Weimar Republic in 1931,[8] under the presence of the growing Nazi Party, the film is loosely based on the 1966 Broadway musical Cabaret by Kander and Ebb,[7] which was adapted from Christopher Isherwood’s semi-autobiographical novel The Berlin Stories (1945) and the 1951 play I Am a Camera adapted from the same work.[7][9]: 609  Multiple numbers from the stage score were used for the film, which also featured three other songs by Kander and Ebb, including two written for the adaptation.[10][11] In the traditional manner of musical theater, most major characters in the stage version sing to express their emotions and advance the plot; in the film, however, the musical numbers are entirely diegetic.[9]: 609  All of them take place inside the club,[10][9]: 609  with one exception: “Tomorrow Belongs to Me”, the only song sung neither by the characters of the Master of Ceremonies nor Sally Bowles.[12]…

And about the song:

“Maybe This Time” is a song written by John Kander and Fred Ebb for actress Kaye Ballard.[1][2] It was later included in the 1972 film Cabaret, where it is sung by the character Sally Bowles, played by Liza Minnelli. It had already been recorded and released twice, in similar arrangements, on Minnelli’s debut studio album Liza! Liza! (1964), and subsequently New Feelin’ (1970), but it turned into a traditional pop standard after its 1972 inclusion in Cabaret.

    1. Hi Zelda, welcome to “The Bee Writes”. Lovely to meet you. Don’t worry, I have no expectations for my readers. I just had trouble with a stalking ex who resurfaced online in 2020, so I put most of my private online presences private. I hope you have fun and enjoy my posts 😊
