It’s five years after I wrote these words and now I don’t only feel like an immigrant now I downright feel alienated. It’s heart breaking what Boris’s Tories do to the UK πͺ

Brexit has made me feel like an immigrant in this country. Shame.
Immigrant
Never realised I am an immigrant.
I feel at home where I lay my hat.
Nationality does not really matter to me.
Aren’t we all just H U M A N after all?

Very cool poem! Love the structure / shape you chose. I don’t feel like an immigrant either, but I suppose everyone but the Native Americans immigrated to America. π

The shape was not planned it just occurred as I was not using tabs to move the lines along. But when I saw it in the preview I really loved it and just left it how it was. Thanks for your comment.

I was born in South Wales, resided some times in parts of England and currently live in North East Wales, think of myself as European and your poem says it all for me.
I would sooner trust rule from Brussels than London.

My husband is British too and feels the same. I still swing between utter rage and grief because it’s everyday ppl who suffer the most πͺ

They will. Too many people bought into the illusion that Brexit would bring back Great Britain; Rule Britannia etc.
They had not noticed Great Britain had been replaced by The UK, a fractious collection of four nations in one small island off the coast of Europe. An island with no mercantile fleet or independent sea-faring based economy anymore.
With Covid and a full scale conventional war in the not so distant nation of Ukraine affecting the picture it is hard to say how Brexit is playing out. The disruption in Northern Ireland is on indicator.
Unhappy times.
