Jim over at “A Unique Title For Me” set us the challenge to find out about Surf Rock. Find his prompt & the suggestions on how to take part here.

But first: what is Surf Rock?

What Was Surf Rock?

Well, of course, I knew the Beach Boys but that was about it. But already many have chosen them. I’m in a pickle here.

I’d like to use the sub genre of instrumental surf rock which is futile for a blog challenge called “Song Lyric Sunday”. Maybe I leave the whole thing?

There is apparently a German online radio station that plays Surf Rock called Surf Rock Radio and it’s playlist brought up
Aki Aleong & The Nobles. I might as well surf with them 😁

And I fell for my ignorance. Looks like they are part of the instrumental branch 🫣

On we go in our research 🤣 Guess what? There are modern bands who do it too:

10 Modern Bands Keeping Surf Rock Alive and Well in 2019 gives you quite a choice beside the usual but I have to admit they do not sound like genuine Surf Rock. Can I use them anyway?

I guess, Dead Coast are the ones who come closest:

Aber zuerst: Was ist Surf Rock?

Die Surfmusik (von englisch surf „Brandung“, durch Erweiterung surfing „Wellenreiten“) war eine in den frühen 1960er Jahren in Kalifornien entstandene, überwiegend instrumentale Variante des Rock ’n’ Roll. Weitere gebräuchliche Bezeichnungen waren Surf Sound, Surf Rock und Surf Music.[1] International populär wurde die Surfmusik vor allem durch die Surfband Beach Boys, die sich allerdings stilistisch durch ihre mehrstimmigen Gesangsharmonien von der instrumentalen Surfmusik unterschieden. Zu den bekannteren instrumentalen Interpreten zählten die Surfaris mit dem Stück Wipe Out (1963) oder die The Chantays mit Pipeline (1962).

Natürlich kannte ich die Beach Boys aber bereits viele haben sie gewählt. Ich bin hier in einer Zwickmühle.

Ich würde gerne das Subgenre des instrumentalen Surfrock verwenden, das für eine Blog-Challenge namens „Song Lyric Sunday“ zwecklos ist. Vielleicht lasse ich das Ganze?

Es gibt anscheinend einen deutschen Online-Radiosender, der Surf Rock Radio heisst, und seine Playlist zeigt Aki Aleong & The Nobles.  Ich könnte genauso gut mit ihnen surfen 😁

Und ich fiel wieder auf meine Unwissenheit herein. Sieht so aus, als ob sie Teil der Instrumentalbranche sind 🫣

Weiter geht’s mit unserer Recherche 🤣 Ratet mal? Es gibt auch moderne Bands, die das machen:
