I started the “I stand With” series back in 2022 when the western world stood up in an outcry of “I stand with Ukraine” while they never seem to give a damn about all the countries which are continuously troubled by violence.
We only seem to stand with the oppressed when it suits us. I am as much of an example of that because I did not finish the series. So, I will do a shortened version of it for the next couple of days. I still have trouble reading so longer posts are hard for me.
Remember Syria? A civil war that still lingers on in which Putin seems to have tried out how far he can go? I know people who are either from Syria or have family from Syria. Its another example of many peoples being mixed together within a Border but some have more power than others. And outside forces playing games.
If Syria had any sorts of resources the West needs they would put much more money & weapons in it than they do. It is another example why I think borders are bad ideas. They only lead to wars. I wish someone would prove me wrong. 😪
Erinnern Ihr Euch an Syrien?
Conveniently forgotten or excused Sadat by many UK anti-war activists, simply on the grounds that the US & UK governments opposed him.

Who the hell can excuse

Oh, sorry, pressed the wrong button. I assume you mean Assad & not Sadat otherwise I need to research the connection. Who the hell excuses Assad? I have a friend whose father is from Syria. So I know from them that the current leading Assad is said to have assassinated his brother who should have been a leader and who was loved by everybody. No one ever liked the current one for obvious reasons. His father kept the religious factions in line with an iron hand and did a Massaker in the 70s. As far as I understand the descendants of those oppose the current regime. Even though I have learned since October 7th that a lot of people consider that someone excuses something simply by pointing out facts about different groups. But thats a different story ☮️

Oh bother, I should have double checked 😳. (I think what happened was when I typed in ‘Assad’ first, there was a spelling mistake WP alternatives came up with a list that included ‘Sadat’ and my ‘fat fingers’ hit the wrong choice- my fault not doing that and not checking).
Another layer of hypocrisy in the Syrian war was the support by Iran for Assad. Assad’s family’s religious affiliations are to the Alawite branch of Islam, which by the perceptions of the hardliners in Iran would be heretics which should be an unspeakable crime and yet they were supported?
No outsiders came out of that war with anything like clean hands

Yep. And even in a theocracy that beats its women for not covering their heads there can be a certain ‘flexibility’ when it comes to ‘beliefs’.
(I am sure there are some American Republicans who are trying to find a way to talk nice to Tehran- ‘Say what you like. Those guys sure do know how to run a nation,’)

Quite. There are so many examples of perfectly fair and equal ones to cite. Though I can’t seem to bring any to mind 🤔, maybe it’s because I am 73 this year?
